Contemporary sofa design: Ploum by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Ligne Roset


Ploum sofa owned by Designers duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, was created for the French producer Ligne Roset, made a thorough study on user comfort to accompany the design process to understand the needs of target groups. The result is a highly organic unity of form and matter.

Like almost any other furniture, sofa captures the spirit and lifestyle of an era. While the sofa in the 1960’s was primarily intended for the seats upright, the designers of the 1970s began to create landscapes with a capacity of more affluent than were intended to represent the spirit of this new era.

Motivated to create a comfortable sofa, contemporary design, the Bouroullec brothers designed this Ploum sofa which has a broad and smooth forms, in order to invite and to perfectly fit the contours of the wearer.

The combination of materials also provides a very sensual fabric covered elastic, the material of the sofa, soft foam offers great comfort and a chance to rest in a very different so that “the whole body may be sitting on a tender area and smooth”.

According to the designers, the innovative use of the elastic tissue of the tapestry is “a symbol of modern lifestyle in which they are considered essential flexibility and comfort.

It’s really amazing how different styles combine to create a good looking, practical and pleasant to the Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec Ploum sofa.
