The team of PB Elemental Architects have designed the Shorter Residence in Wenatchee Valley, Washington. The project was an extension of a house in the 1906 apple orchard farm which now has a master bedroom, living room and dining room. A remodeling of the existing garage is also included in the letter from the client.
The house is more than just a residence and the project emphasized flexible spaces to suit the needs of a large family. Customers have a ski team and the home of many of the teams at home at one time or another during the season. The design was created to maximize the views of the valley and surrounding hills, while providing shelter from the owners of the daily activities of working from home.
The former master bedroom becomes a new bathroom and closets, Corten steel structure was built to house the bedroom and living room. The spaces share a chimney and roof deck in the fresh dining room. The outdoor terrace above was removed and replaced by new living spaces on the second floor. External materials include seam cut, polycarbonate panels, fiber cement and cedar rain screen walls.
