Acrylic Chaise Lounge: The Floater chaise by Manuel Kretzer and Mathias Bernhard


The Swiss Company Responsive Design Studio, owned by Manuel Kretzer, in partnership with Mathias Bernhard has presented its new design project. The chaise lounge, which we see on the screen, was manufactured in close collaboration with Kläusler Acrylstein AG for CAAD, ETH Zurich.

The Floater chaise, that is, the design of this seat furniture is based on the distinctive properties of acrylic stone material combined with an advanced digital design and manufacturing techniques.

They has developed a piece of furniture produced in analyzation generative model and tools which were used to maximize the area available on each sheet of 12 mm “HI-MACS solid surface” and minimize stress due to bending.

According to the designers, four prototypes to date have been made in Alpine White, Fire Red and Black. The project is still in development but in different colors are available upon request.
